Welcome to the Lake Champlain Islands, on the West Coast of New England!

The Lake Champlain Islands have more shoreline and islands than any other part of Vermont. Here a traveler may come upon breathtaking views at any bend in the road. Located between two great cities, Montreal, Quebec and Burlington, Vermont, our small towns and stunning scenery offer quiet rural charm. Enjoy lakeside lodging and dining, hiking and biking trails, as well as year-round fishing, boating and golf. Sample local cheeses, chocolate and wines. Feast in autumn on apples, cider and pies, while shopping for antiques and mementos. Explore one of the world's oldest coral reefs, New England's oldest log cabin, and other historic sites. Or bask on a sandy beach in one of our State Parks. Stay a day, a week or a lifetime!

    Background Information on the Islands & Lakes...
    The Islands were discovered by Samuel de Champlain nearly 400 years ago, while native Americans have inhabited these shores for much longer. The five towns in the Champlain Islands are rich with historical artifacts from the earliest settlers. New England's oldest log cabin is open to visitors to Grand Isle each summer. Explore the world's oldest coral reef in Isle La Motte. Knock on the door of each historical society for a peek at their treasures. Visit the many old cemeteries throughout the county.

    Grand Isle County is the home of hundreds of small and micro businesses, as well as a fully permitted Business Park in Alburg for light manufacturing. Our economy is centered on tourism and agriculture, but a growing number of people are establishing home-based professional businesses, enjoying a relaxed lifestyle with easy access via the Interstate and Burlington's airport to Canada, New York State and the world.
