Community Cinema: The Homestretch 3/11/15 - 3/11/15
The Homestretch follows three homeless teens as they fight to stay in school, graduate, and build a future. Each of these smart, ambitious youths — Roque, Kasey, and Anthony — will surprise, inspire, and challenge audiences to rethink stereotypes of homelessness as they complete their education while facing the trauma of being alone and abandoned at an early age. Their personal stories connect with larger issues of poverty, race, juvenile justice, immigration, foster care, and LGBTQ rights.
Vermont Stage presents SLOWGIRL 3/11/15 - 3/11/15
Vermont Stage presents SLOWGIRL. A teenager flees to her reclusive uncle's retreat in the Costa Rican jungle to escape the aftermath of a harrowing accident. The week they spend together forces them both to confront who they are as well as what it is they are running from. Continuing our collaboration with Shelburne playwright Greg Pierce, this play is an intimate and elegant glimpse at two people seeking forgiveness and finding the courage to confront the past.
The Dark Tale of Orville Gibson: A Vermont Mystery 3/12/15 - 3/12/15
Retired Barre judge Stephen B Martin presents the story of Orville Gibson, a Newbury farmer whose frozen body was found in the Connecticut River on March 26, 1958 and has remained a controversy for over half a century. The investigation into Gibson’s death and the subsequent trials and acquittals have made the case one of Vermont’s most famous “murder” investigations. Martin offers the fullest account of the events leading up to the victim’s disappearance and death in his new book The Dark Tale of Orville Gibson: A Vermont Mystery. He will give a presentation of the book, in addition to selling and signing copies of it at the event.
Sugaring Time Festival 3/14/15 - 3/14/15
Celebrate the start of spring and sugaring season with a delicious variety of maple themed activities. Search for maple nips in a resort wide scavenger hunt and win sweet prizes, play maple-inspired games, indulge in maple dining specials, and more. 10:00 AM- 4:00 PM-Maple Syrup Scavenger Hunt: Find the VT maple syrup nips that we have hidden all around the mountain. Bring yours in to guest services at Lincoln Peak or Mt. Ellen, and be entered into a drawing to win prizes. Every finder is a winner. 10:00 AM- 5:00 PM- Maple inspired cuisine in food and drinks in food and beverage outlets. 10:00 AM- 5:00 PM- Maple Harvest Specialties, serving Maple Cotton Candy, Maple Kettle Corn, Sugar on snow (served the Vermont way with a pickle and a doughnut hole) 10:00 AM-11:00 AM- Doughnut Eating contest. Winner will recieve a small prize.
