Helpful Info About Traveling in and Around Vermont
There are too many reasons to count that make Vermont a great place to visit. The progression of the state as a whole is quite remarkable for one undeniable reason: It is improving the Vermont experience without jeopardizing its originality or natural surroundings.
Many places these days are expanding in the wrong ways. Commercial expansion is not always a measure of value. In other words, while many regions are expanding upwards and outwards with large buildings and corporations and big roads to improve its appeal, Vermont is expanding in other ways. Vermont is taking what it has already built and improving the quality. Whether it be accommodations, dining, attractions or simply quality of life, the people of this state are protecting the traditions and customs while creating an improved vacation destination.
Around the mid-20th century, the people of Vermont decided to market the state as a tourist destination. As you can imagine, tourism is one Vermont's strongest industries. Our commitment to maintaining a pure environment, with strict controls on development, such as the 1968 Billboard Law which bans billboards from highway corridors, is largely responsible for Vermont's popularity as a vacation destination. Vermont is a wonderful haven for those who love the outdoors, from Southern Vermont to the Northeast Kingdom.
In winter, the ski resorts host skiers from around the globe just as in the summer, resort towns host many visitors as well. Resorts, hotels, restaurants, and shops, designed to attract tourists, employ people year-round.
