Vermont.com Guide to

Brownsville

We Are
Vermont.

Brownsville is an unincorporated village in Windsor County, located on Route 44 in southern Windsor County. The original name was West Windsor, but after separating & reuniting a few times with the town of Windsor, it was finally named for two settlers, John and Briant Brown.

Just east of Brownsville is the entrance to Ascutney Mountain Resort, which used to be one of the major ski areas in the state. Ascutney Mountain closed in 2010, but in 2015 the not-for-profit Mt. Ascutney Outdoors was born with the mission of developing and managing outdoor activities on the mountain including biking and skiing.
