Pikes Falls Chamber Music Festival 7/31/14 - 8/9/14
Events are during the days of July 31- August 9, with the opening concert on the night of July 31st, at 7 PM. Events include concerts, family/ community events, and appearances from many talented guest artists and composers, all taking place in the Jamaica Town Hall on Main Street. Admission is free of charge, but donations are welcome. A portion of the donations will be contributed to the Stratton Foundation to benefit Hurricane Irene relief efforts.
Pikes Falls Chamber Music Festival 8/1/14 - 8/9/14
This summer marks the third season of Pikes Falls Chamber Music Festival in Jamaica, VT with events between July 31- August 9. This year, PFCM will again hold a series of evening concerts, and a family and community day. In addition, PFCM musicians will tour Southern VT to play at area State Parks and in nearby towns. The 2014 festival will include 10 performing musicians, 3 composers-in-residence, and 3 visual artists. Los Angeles based women composers Julia Adolphe and Alice Wood will each attend for one week, while Philadelphia’s Joe Hallman will return with a new duet for flute and a narrator. Each festival performance will include a World Premiere by one of the composers. Artists-in-residence Natasha Loewy, Kimberly Culotta, and Andrew Brehm will have artwork displayed in the Town Hall and will also be working with the musicians toward a final collaborative performance including sculpture, video, music, and costumes. Evening concerts are on Thursday, July 31st, Saturday, August 2nd, Wednesday, August 6th, and Saturday, August 9, all starting at 7 PM. Pre-concert discussions will be led by the conductor and composer-in-residence 45 minutes before each evening concert, and receptions will follow. Sunday, August 3rd is a full day of community and family events. First, PFCM artists will lead an art/music collaboration for children and young adults from 1-2:30. The art created in the collaboration will be hung around the hall for the afternoon family concert, which starts at 3. After the concert, audience members can stay for an open rehearsal from 4:30-6. At 6:30, the day concludes with a community potluck and open mic night. All events take place in the Jamaica Town Hall on Main Street. Admission is free of charge, but donations are welcome.
