Killington is a town in Rutland County, of the "Crossroads of Vermont" region, and is home to the popular Killington Resort ski area.
The town was originally named Killington but in 1800 it was renamed Sherburne in honor of Colonel Benjamin Sherburne, one of the original grantees. Because there was so much confusion when people were looking for Killington (not realizing that they actually wanted Sherburne), in 1999 the name was changed back to Killington.
Perfectly situated in the Green Mountains, Killington possesses some of the highest and most varied mountain terrain in all of New England. Killington Mountain is most famous for its Winter sports scene, and is one of the most coveted ski resorts in Vermont and on the entire East Coast.
