Description: Green Mountain Academy for Lifelong Learning (GMALL) welcomes Derek Boothby, Former Director of the United Nations Department of Political Affairs, to talk about the history of the Second Amendment. The importance attached to the right to bear arms and the impact of the Second Amendment continue to reverberate, as they have since its adoption in 1791. What is the background of the term ‘well-regulated militia’? What was the origin of ‘the right to bear arms’? How is it that the United States has an attitude to civilian-owned guns that is so markedly different from all other democratic, industrialized countries? This talk will trace the history of the right to bear arms from inception to the present day. Registration is $15 in advance or $20 at the door. For more information or to register, please call our office at 802-867-0111 or visit our website www.greenmtnacademy.org. This lecture is sponsored by The Keelan Family Foundation. Note: This is not a talk on gun control. Green Mountain Academy does not take a position for or against gun control.
