Snowboarding has long been a favorite winter pastime in Vermont, and the "Lake Champlain Valley" region offers many snowboarding vacation opportunities. With the largest city in the state and the largest airport in the state, it's no wonder Burlington, VT is such a popular travel destination. Located on the east coast of Lake Champlain, Burlington is home to the University of Vermont, and the popular Church Street Market.
This region is also home to Jake Burton and Burton Snowboards, the world's first snowboard factory, currently located in Burlington, Vermont. Snowboarding was once considered an "underground sport" and ski resorts did not allow snowboarders on their mountains, but today about 95% of all ski resorts allow snowboarding. Shannon Dunn-Downing, the first American woman to win a medal in snowboarding, is also noted for working on women's products with Burton Snowboards.
Many of the country's best snowboarders come from Vermont, and Snowboarding Olympic Medalist Kelly Clark, is from Burlington, Vermont.
If you're a snowboarder (or you're thinking of learning), Vermont is the place to be. Vermont winter resorts have something to offer everyone from the expert snowboarder to the beginner. Find out the latest snow conditions with our Ski & Snow Report.
