Honey Oatmeal Bread
Submitted by:
Welcoming guests to Stowe since 1833, the beautifully restored Green Mountain
Inn offers the perfect blend of modern comfort and classic elegance in 105
unique guest rooms, luxury suites and village townhouses.
Featured Vermont.com Recipe:
Honey Oatmeal Bread, by The Green Mountain Inn |
1/8 cup yeast
1/2 cup hot water (105°-110°)
1 1/2 cups quick oats
3 cups water
|
1/3 cup melted butter
1 3/4 tbsp. salt
3/4 cup honey
7 1/2 cups flour
|
* In a bowl mix yeast and water and let stand.
* Mix next five ingredients in a large mixing bowl.
* Add yeast and water mixture. Mix together.
* Add flour. Set to rise.
* Divide dough and knead.
* Shape into three loaves and put into greased standard loaf
pans. Let rise.
* Bake at 325° for 35 minutes. Makes 2 loaves.
* Optional: Coat top of loaves with egg white mixture and oats before baking.

Fact: Snow golf was invented in Vermont.
True! - I know what you're thinking...
snow golf? Yes, apparently it is a real sport, and it was invented in Vermont by
none other than Rudyard Kipling, who spent some time living in the state in the
latter part of the 19th century (and penning some of his best known works while
doing so). This winter version is played with distinctive red balls and tin cans
for cups.
