The 2005 Komen Vermont Race for the Cure
Nancy Brinker started the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation
in 1982 in memory of her sister, Susan, who died from breast cancer at the age of
36. The foundation is a national non-profit organization with Komen Race
for the Cure events in 112 cities across the country. Through early funding
of basic research, Komen has laid the groundwork for some of today's most promising
breast cancer treatments. Each year, the Foundation grants and fellowships in basic
and clinical research, and grants in the areas of breast cancer education, treatment
and screening projects for the medically underserved. Since its inception, the
Foundation has awarded over 583 grants from its Grant Fund to
recipients who were selected through a peer review process recognized by the
National Cancer Institute (NCI). This year, the 5K run
or Walk for All and 1 Mile Steeplechase for Children at
Hildene's Meadowlands in Manchester will be held on Sunday,
July 31, 2005.

The Weston Playhouse Announces it's 2005 Theatre Season
Producing Directors Malcolm Ewen, Tim Fort and Steve Stettler proudly announce
the Weston Playhouse Theatre Company's 2005 season, featuring
12 weeks of world-class theatre at its home in picturesque Weston, Vermont.
Prestigious premieres, an internationally celebrated solo performance and a new
family musical are among the highlights of the company's 69th season.
The Playhouse leadership promises three stages filled with "stories told as
only live theatre can." The Weston Playhouse Theatre Company is a non-profit
organization supported in part by funds from the Vermont Arts Council,
the National Endowment for the Arts and an ever-growing family
of individuals who believe in the impact that the performing arts can have on its
community. Season Subscriptions, Group Sales and Singles Tickets are now available
by phone, and the Playhouse Box Office window will open in early June.

"Stratton's own" John Huminski
John Huminski was born with Cerebral Palsy and has close ties to the Stratton
area. He's a rare athlete with many medals from all sorts of sports competitions
over the years, sponsored by the U.S. Cerebral Palsy Association.
But, John broke his collarbone in a 2001 accident where he fell off a racing rowcycle
and now is totally depended on nursing care. His friends established Stephen's
Trust, which has allowed John to swim regularly at the Norwalk, CT -
YMCA. However, despite the Y's generosity with a free membership, the cost of a
trained aide and transportation amounts to more than $450 a month... and money is
running out.
If you would like to help John with this important program, send a check today to
Stephen's Trust, c/o John Bloomer, 18 Kingsbridge Way, Madison, CT 06443-3047.

Vermont Trivia
We're Stumped!
Question: We received an email last
month from one of Vermont.com's viewers with a question that has us stumped! We
have spent a few hours researching and have not been able to come-up with the answer.
The viewer is looking for a Bed & Breakfast they heard about on a TV show. The
place used to be a mansion owned by the Vanderbilt Family, and has now been turned
into a B&B somewhere in Vermont.
Answer: We would love to
find more information about this place. If you know the name of the house or the
town it is in, please send us an
email, and if your answer turns out to be correct, we'll post it in an
upcoming Newsletter!

The Dorset Theatre Festival's 30th Anniversary Season
The historic Dorset Playhouse has been in continuous use since
it's construction in 1929. The original Playhouse structure is composed of two
pre-revolutionary barns moved to the present site from Dorset West Road. Professional
theatre at the Dorset Playhouse has been an important part of
life in Dorset and Manchester since the 1930s. It is one of this area's most widely
known cultural attractions—attended by our community's own residents and by thousands
from across a three-state area. The Dorset Theatre Festival
celebrates its 30th Anniversary this season, opening in June of 2005.
