The 2005 Komen Vermont Race for the Cure
Nancy Brinker started the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation
in 1982 in memory of her sister, Susan, who died from breast cancer at the age of
36. The foundation is a national non-profit organization with Komen Race
for the Cure events in 112 cities across the country. Through early funding
of basic research, Komen has laid the groundwork for some of today's most promising
breast cancer treatments. Each year, the Foundation grants and fellowships in basic
and clinical research, and grants in the areas of breast cancer education, treatment
and screening projects for the medically underserved. Since its inception, the
Foundation has awarded over 583 grants from its Grant Fund to
recipients who were selected through a peer review process recognized by the
National Cancer Institute.
This year, the 5K run or Walk for All and 1 Mile Steeplechase
for Children at Hildene's Meadowlands in Manchester will
be held on Sunday, July 31, 2005.

Vermont Trivia
Did You Know?
Last month we asked you to help us with a trivia question and we've received several
responses. Thank You for your participation!
Question: What is the name
for a Bed & Breakfast in Vermont that used to be a mansion owned by the
Vanderbilt Family?
Answer: The closest we've
found to be true is the Inn at Shelburne Farms.
Shelburne Farms was created in 1886 by William Seward and Lila Vanderbilt Webb as
a model agricultural estate. In 1972, it was founded as an educational nonprofit.
The nearly 400 acres of sustainably managed woodlands received Green Certification
from the Forest Stewardship Council in 1998 and the grass-based dairy supports a
herd of 125 purebred, registered Brown Swiss cows, whose milk is made into the
Farm's award-winning cheddar cheese right on the property.
Restored in 1987, the Inn today retains its historic character and continues the
tradition of warmth, informal elegance and hospitality enjoyed by guests for more
than a century. There are 24 bedrooms & two cottages individually decorated
with many original furnishings. At the restaurant, you can enjoy contemporary
regional cuisine for breakfast, dinner or Sunday brunch with reservations.

The Dorset Theatre Festival's 30th Anniversary Season
The historic Dorset Playhouse has been in continuous use since
it's construction in 1929. The original Playhouse structure is composed of two
pre-revolutionary barns moved to the present site from Dorset West Road. Professional
theatre at the Dorset Playhouse has been an important part of
life in Dorset and Manchester since the 1930s. It is one of this area's most widely
known cultural attractions—attended by our community's own residents and by thousands
from across a three-state area. The Dorset Theatre Festival
celebrates its 30th Anniversary this season, opening in June of 2005.
