This month's Vermont.com Newsletter allows one (1) lucky subscriber
to win: a Vermont Artist Package from Vermont.com
including two books by Vermont Authors Bob & Melinda Blanchard, and handcrafted
pottery by Vermont Potter Susan Leader.
Live What You Love by Bob & Melinda Blanchard: Through delightful
and moving stories, reflections, notes - and a soupcon of advice - the Blanchards
have written a stunning, inspirational manifesto where truly living what you love
becomes a revolutionary act, a rebellion against the common life.
Cook What You Love by Bob & Melinda Blanchard: The Blanchards
have always loved food because of the way it brings people together both in the
kitchen and around the table. From celebration dinners to picnics on the beach to
breakfast in bed, this book combines over a hundred of Bob and Melinda's favorite
recipes with stories about how their love for food seeps into every part of life.
A native Vermonter, Susan Leader studied ceramics at Antioch College in the early
1970's, then went on to serve an apprenticeship in Japan during her early 20's.
There she gained a degree in discipline and respect for folk art traditions.
Returning to her native New England, Susan took another look at American traditions
in clay and was drawn to the technique of "Spongeware" as a means of expressing
her art. She has succeeded in creating a line of functional tableware and accent
pieces that have universal appeal. With their fresh twist on the "nostalgic country
charm" that all of us crave, her pieces beg to be used daily, and held close to
the heart.

Vermont Trivia
What is "Green Up Day"?

|
Vermont was the first state to designate a day to clean up the entire state. Started
in 1970 by Governor Deane C. Davis, our unique annual tradition continues with
thousands of Vermonters taking care of Vermont. "Green Up Day" takes place every
year on the first Saturday in May.
Green Up Vermont is the not-for-profit organization responsible for keeping
the "Green Up" tradition growing for Vermont. Green Up's mission is to promote the
stewardship of our state's rural landscape and waterways and the livability of our
community by involving people in "Green Up Day" and raising public awareness about
the benefits of a litter-free environment.
The success of Vermont's "Green Up" depends on two essential ingredients. One is
the combined efforts of individuals and civic groups who volunteer to make it all
possible; and two, the financial support given by the public and private sectors
throughout Vermont. To learn more about volunteering or how you can make a
tax-deductible financial contribution, call the Green Up Vermont office
at 802-229-4586, or 1-800-974-3259.
