Vermont Snowboarding
Snowboarding has long been a favorite winter pastime in Vermont. Home to some of the largest winter ski areas in New England, Vermont is a premiere snowboarding destination.

Many of the country's best snowboarders come from Vermont. Notable Snowboarding Olympic Medalists include Danny Kass and Shaun White, both of whom spent a lot of their time at Okemo Mountain and Bear Mountain in Ludlow, Vermont. Ross Powers is an American world champion halfpipe snowboarder from Peru, Vermont; Hannah Teter is from Belmont, Vermont; Lindsey Jacobellis is from Stratton, Vermont; and Kelly Clark is from Burlington, Vermont.
Vermont is also home to Jake Burton and Burton Snowboards, the world's first snowboard factory, currently located in Burlington, Vermont. Snowboarding was once considered an "underground sport" and ski resorts did not allow snowboarders on their mountains. In 1982, Suicide Six Resort in Pomfret, Vermont became the first resort to allow snowboarding and today about 95% of all ski resorts allow snowboarding. Shannon Dunn-Downing, the first American woman to win a medal in snowboarding, is also noted for working on women's products with Burton Snowboards.
