The Bennington Battle Monument was built to commemorate the Battle of Bennington, which took place in 1777. It is the tallest structure in the state of Vermont at 306 feet 4.5 inches tall and features an observation deck with views of three states.
A number of additional monuments can be found on the Monument grounds. The largest is of Seth Warner, commander of the Green Mountain Boys who helped defeat the British forces in the Second Engagement of the Battle.
