The Vermont Department of Labor was created on July 1, 2005 through an Executive Order(#01-05) by Governor Douglas, which merges the Departments of Labor & Industry and Employment & Training. As stated by Governor Douglas, the new department "will improve and enhance services to the public by combining under one department: employment security, employment-related services, labor market information, safety and training for Vermont workers and employers, workers compensation, and wage and hour". The Department's primary focus is to help support efforts to make Vermont a more competitive place to do business and create good jobs.
